Community leaders, development partners, and housing advocates gathered in June to celebrate the groundbreaking of LiveWell Terrace, a new 120-unit affordable and workforce housing community in Bluffton. The $39 million development, located along Buckwalter Parkway near the future Beaufort Memorial hospital campus, represents another significant investment in expanding housing opportunities for working families in southern Beaufort County.
The development will include one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartment homes serving income-qualified households, along with medical office space to support expanded healthcare services in the growing Bluffton area. Designed through a partnership among Beaufort Memorial, Woda Cooper Companies, SC Housing, and numerous public and private partners, LiveWell Terrace demonstrates the impact that collaboration can have in addressing the region’s workforce housing shortage.
We were especially pleased to see BJHT Board Member Victoria Smalls, Director of Affordable Housing for the Town of Bluffton, serve as one of the featured speakers during the groundbreaking ceremony. In her remarks, Smalls emphasized the importance of projects like LiveWell Terrace in addressing the region’s housing challenges and providing quality homes for local workers.
As construction moves forward, LiveWell Terrace stands as another example of what is possible when local governments, healthcare providers, nonprofit organizations, and private developers work together toward a shared goal of creating attainable housing for the Lowcountry’s workforce.
