Addressing Critical Health & Safety Needs

The City of Beaufort Home Repair Program continues to make progress helping homeowners address critical health and safety needs while preserving existing affordable housing in the community.

Launched with a combined $250,000 investment from the City of Beaufort and the Beaufort-Jasper Housing Trust, the program received 23 applications during its initial application period. Eligible homeowners can receive up to $50,000 in grant funding for qualifying repairs.

To date, three homes have completed repairs, representing $106,649.31 invested directly into Beaufort homes. Completed work has included foundation repairs, HVAC replacement, roofing, electrical improvements, insulation, windows, doors and other critical repairs.

More work is underway. One home has completed foundation repairs and will move into the next phase of repair for a bathroom renovation. This renovation will include a walk-in shower to ensure the owner can safely remain in the generational home. An additional project is nearly ready for permitting. Repairs on that home include new windows and HVAC, roofing repairs and an electrical upgrade. An additional applicant was recently removed from the waiting list and has completed the income verification and title review. BJHT anticipates completing 6 homes during with the initial funding.

The program is about more than individual repairs. Helping residents remain safely in their homes is also an important part of preserving the affordable housing Beaufort already has and supporting the long-term stability of our neighborhoods.

BJHT will make an annoucement when the next round of funding opens. Follow the City of Beaufort Home Repair Program webpage for the latest project totals, progress updates and future application announcements.
