The Beaufort-Jasper Housing Trust (BJHT) is proud to support three first-time homebuyers in Ridgeland through a partnership with Lowcountry Habitat for Humanity.
These newly constructed single-family homes are part of Habitat for Humanity of the Lowcountry’s ongoing efforts to expand access to safe, affordable homeownership opportunities in the region. Through BJHT’s First-Time Homebuyer Assistance Program, grant funding was provided to help reduce financial barriers for qualifying families purchasing these homes, making homeownership more attainable for local working households.
Habitat’s homeownership model combines affordable, interest-free mortgages with a commitment from partner families to contribute “sweat equity,” fostering both financial stability and a strong sense of community. BJHT’s assistance complements this model by helping cover upfront costs that can otherwise place homeownership out of reach for first-time buyers.
This collaboration reflects BJHT’s broader mission to preserve and expand workforce and affordable housing across Beaufort and Jasper Counties through strategic partnerships. By investing in projects like these, BJHT is helping strengthen neighborhoods, support economic mobility, and create lasting housing solutions for families in our region.
