The Beaufort-Jasper Housing Trust (BJHT) continues to champion the development of workforce and affordable housing across the region, recently presenting at strategic planning meetings and retreats for the Town of Port Royal, Jasper County, and the City of Beaufort. Each of these local governments has identified housing as a top priority, and BJHT is eager to collaborate in turning their vision into reality.
During these sessions, BJHT shared updates on its impact to date, highlighting the nearly $2 million in funding deployed to support affordable housing efforts in Beaufort and Jasper counties. This includes investments in homebuyer assistance, affordable home preservation, workforce housing initiatives, and the development of Carrington Manor, a Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) senior housing community.
BJHT also outlined opportunities to partner with local governments, offering funding solutions and strategic support to help communities meet their housing goals. Discussions focused on the need for sustainable funding sources, incentives for private developers, and collaboration to maximize the impact of local, state, and federal resources.
“Workforce and affordable housing is a challenge that requires a unified approach,” said Claude Hicks, BJHT Executive Director. “We’re encouraged to see our local governments making this a priority, and BJHT is committed to being a key partner in making real progress.”
As Port Royal, Jasper County, and Beaufort refine their strategic plans, BJHT will continue to work alongside municipal leaders, housing advocates, and community stakeholders to ensure tangible, lasting solutions. Together, we can create housing opportunities that strengthen our local workforce and improve the quality of life for residents across the region.
