An Urgent Need for Action
Beaufort and Jasper Counties are beacons of natural beauty and historical significance. Yet many of our residents face the challenges of workforce and affordable housing scarcity, community concerns, and socioeconomic disparities. Recognizing the urgent need for action, community leaders, advocates, and stakeholders came together to create the Beaufort Jasper Housing Trust. We are driven by a shared purpose: to create and preserve workforce and affordable housing in Beaufort and Jasper Counties.
Cost Burdened renters
Cost-burdened renters pay more than 30 percent of their income for housing and may have difficulty affording necessities such as food, clothing, transportation, and medical care. Severe rent burden is defined as paying more than 50 percent of one’s income on rent.

Lowcountry Underserved in 2025 LIHTC Applications: BJHT Calls for Policy Change
The South Carolina State Housing Finance and Development Authority (SC Housing) has released the preliminary application scoring for the 2025 Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) cycle. While two self-scored applications have been submitted in northern Beaufort County, no applications were submitted in Southern Beaufort County or Jasper County—continuing a troubling pattern of underrepresentation in the state's most important affordable housing
